Ingredients:
- 4 medium apples (about 1.5 lbs or 680g, preferably a mix like Granny Smith and Honeycrisp)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar (50g)
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice (15ml)
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (2g)
- 1/4 cup water (60ml)
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (1g, optional)
- Pinch of salt
Instructions:
- Wash and core the apples; peel if desired. Cut into 1-inch chunks.
- In a medium saucepan, combine apples, sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), water, and a pinch of salt.
- Place the saucepan over medium heat. Stir occasionally until the mixture begins to simmer.
- Lower the heat and cover the saucepan. Let it simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until apples are tender but still hold their shape.
- Remove the lid and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes if you desire a thicker consistency.
- Transfer to a serving dish or jar and let cool slightly before serving.
