Ingredients:

  • 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon (3g) sugar
  • 1 teaspoon (5g) instant yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon (2g) salt
  • 2 tablespoons (30ml) plain yogurt
  • 3/4 cup (180ml) warm water
  • 2 tablespoons (30ml) vegetable oil or melted ghee
  • 2 tablespoons (30g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Fresh cilantro or parsley

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour and salt. Add yogurt and the yeast mixture. Stir until a dough begins to form.
  3. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Add oil during kneading.
  4. Place the kneaded dough in an oiled bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 30 minutes.
  5. Divide the risen dough into 6-8 pieces, roll into balls, then flatten into 1/4 inch thick ovals.
  6. Preheat a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook each naan 1-2 minutes until bubbles form and underside is golden brown. Flip and cook another minute.
  7. Brush hot naan with melted butter, sprinkle with minced garlic and herbs if desired, then serve warm.
