Ingredients:
- 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon (3g) sugar
- 1 teaspoon (5g) instant yeast
- 1/2 teaspoon (2g) salt
- 2 tablespoons (30ml) plain yogurt
- 3/4 cup (180ml) warm water
- 2 tablespoons (30ml) vegetable oil or melted ghee
- 2 tablespoons (30g) unsalted butter, melted
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- Fresh cilantro or parsley
Instructions:
- In a bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour and salt. Add yogurt and the yeast mixture. Stir until a dough begins to form.
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Add oil during kneading.
- Place the kneaded dough in an oiled bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 30 minutes.
- Divide the risen dough into 6-8 pieces, roll into balls, then flatten into 1/4 inch thick ovals.
- Preheat a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook each naan 1-2 minutes until bubbles form and underside is golden brown. Flip and cook another minute.
- Brush hot naan with melted butter, sprinkle with minced garlic and herbs if desired, then serve warm.
