Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground turkey (93% lean)
  • 1/4 cup yellow onion, finely grated
  • 1 tbsp light mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 4 whole-grain buns
  • 4 slices sharp white cheddar cheese
  • Lettuce
  • Tomato
  • Red onion

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, combine the grated onion, light mayo, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper, stirring until they form a paste.
  2. Add the ground turkey to the bowl and gently fold the mixture together with your hands until just combined; do not overwork the meat.
  3. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into patties approximately 3/4 inch (2cm) thick.
  4. Using your thumb, press a shallow indent (dimple) into the center of each patty to ensure even cooking.
  5. Preheat the grill to medium-high heat (375°F to 400°F / 190°C to 200°C) and lightly oil the grates.
  6. Grill the patties until they reach the desired internal temperature, adding cheese slices during the final minute of cooking.
  7. Assemble the burgers on buns with lettuce, sliced tomato, and red onion.
