Ingredients:

  • 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla. Mix until smooth.
  4. Carefully stir in boiling water to achieve thin batter consistency.
  5. Divide batter evenly between prepared cake pans.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  7. Remove from oven; let cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack to cool completely.
  8. While cooling, prepare the frosting by beating butter until creamy, then adding cocoa, powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla.
  9. Once the cakes are cooled, spread frosting between layers and on top of the cake.
  10. Slice and serve!
