Ingredients:

  • 10 oz (280 g) tortilla chips
  • 2 cups (200 g) shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup (120 g) shredded Monterey Jack cheese
  • 1 can (15 oz or 425 g) black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 cup (150 g) diced tomatoes (fresh or canned)
  • 1/2 cup (75 g) sliced jalapeños (pickled or fresh)
  • 1 ripe avocado, diced
  • 1/4 cup (60 g) sour cream
  • 1/4 cup (60 g) fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt (to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder (optional)
  • 1 cup (150 g) cooked ground beef or shredded chicken (optional)
  • 1/2 cup (75 g) diced red onion (optional)
  • 1/4 cup (60 g) guacamole (optional)
  • 1/4 cup (60 g) salsa (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Spread the tortilla chips in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  3. Evenly sprinkle the cheddar and Monterey Jack cheese over the chips.
  4. Top with black beans, diced tomatoes, and jalapeños. Add any optional extras like ground beef or shredded chicken at this point.
  5. Bake in the oven for about 10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  6. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly.
  7. Top with diced avocado, sour cream, cilantro, and sprinkle with salt and chili powder as desired.
  8. Serve immediately on a large platter with additional toppings and sauces on the side.
