Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened (226g)
  • 4 cups powdered sugar, sifted (480g)
  • 2-4 tablespoons milk or heavy cream (30-60ml)
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract (5ml)
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions:

  1. In a mixing bowl, beat the softened butter until light and fluffy.
  2. Gradually add the sifted powdered sugar, one cup at a time, mixing on low speed after each addition.
  3. Add 2 tablespoons of milk or heavy cream and the vanilla extract. Mix on low speed until just combined.
  4. Add more milk or cream, 1 tablespoon at a time, until the desired consistency is reached. The frosting should be smooth and spreadable.
  5. Increase the mixer speed to medium-high and whip the frosting for 2-3 minutes, until it’s light and airy.
  6. Taste the frosting and adjust sweetness or flavour as needed.
