Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/3 cup white vinegar
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 1 tablespoon water
- Optional: 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder or minced fresh garlic
Instructions:
- In a medium saucepan, whisk together the sugar, white vinegar, ketchup, and soy sauce until well blended.
- Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring to a gentle boil while stirring constantly.
- Once boiling, add the cornstarch slurry slowly while whisking to prevent lumps. Cook until the sauce thickens (about 1-2 minutes).
- Stir in the garlic powder or fresh garlic if using. Remove from heat and let cool slightly before using.
- If not using immediately, transfer to a clean jar and refrigerate.
