Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup white vinegar
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 1 tablespoon water
  • Optional: 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder or minced fresh garlic

Instructions:

  1. In a medium saucepan, whisk together the sugar, white vinegar, ketchup, and soy sauce until well blended.
  2. Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring to a gentle boil while stirring constantly.
  3. Once boiling, add the cornstarch slurry slowly while whisking to prevent lumps. Cook until the sauce thickens (about 1-2 minutes).
  4. Stir in the garlic powder or fresh garlic if using. Remove from heat and let cool slightly before using.
  5. If not using immediately, transfer to a clean jar and refrigerate.
