Ingredients:
- 2 cups fresh blackberries
- 1 cup ketchup
- 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1/3 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
- Wash the blackberries, and measure out all other ingredients.
- In a medium saucepan, combine blackberries and cook over medium heat. Press with a masher or fork until the berries break down and release juice (about 5 minutes).
- Stir in ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper.
- Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce heat to low. Simmer for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly.
- Season with salt and pepper. Adjust sweetness with more sugar if needed.
- For a smoother sauce, pass through a fine mesh strainer, discarding solids.
- Let the sauce cool, then transfer to a jar or container and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to enhance flavors.
