Ingredients:

  • 2 cups fresh blackberries
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Wash the blackberries, and measure out all other ingredients.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine blackberries and cook over medium heat. Press with a masher or fork until the berries break down and release juice (about 5 minutes).
  3. Stir in ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper.
  4. Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce heat to low. Simmer for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly.
  5. Season with salt and pepper. Adjust sweetness with more sugar if needed.
  6. For a smoother sauce, pass through a fine mesh strainer, discarding solids.
  7. Let the sauce cool, then transfer to a jar or container and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to enhance flavors.
