Ingredients:

  • 5-10 medium-sized potatoes (approx. 1-2 kg)
  • 1 burlap sack or paper bag (not plastic)
  • 5-10 medium-sized onions (approx. 500g-1 kg)
  • 1 mesh bag or hanging onion basket
  • 1 cardboard box (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Choose a storage location: Select a cool, dark, and well-ventilated area. Ensure the area remains dry to prevent rot.
  2. Prepare potatoes for storage: Gently brush off any soil; do not wash them. Inspect for blemishes and discard any damaged potatoes.
  3. Store potatoes: Place potatoes in a burlap sack or paper bag. Store them in the selected location, avoiding sunlight.
  4. Prepare onions for storage: Check onions for signs of spoilage; remove any damaged ones. Choose medium-sized bulbs for best results.
  5. Store onions: Place onions in a mesh bag or hang them in an onion basket. If using a cardboard box, ensure ventilation holes are present.
  6. Monitor storage conditions: Check weekly for any spoilage or sprouting. Maintain a consistent, cool temperature of around 45-55°F (7-13°C).
