Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (240 ml) ketchup
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) whisky (such as bourbon)
  • 1/4 cup (50 g) brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon (15 g) smoked paprika
  • 1 tablespoon (15 g) Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon (5 g) garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon (2 g) black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon (2 g) salt

Instructions:

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine ketchup, whisky, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, black pepper, and salt.
  2. Use a whisk to thoroughly mix all ingredients until combined.
  3. Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.
  4. Allow the sauce to simmer for about 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens slightly.
  5. Taste the sauce and adjust seasoning, adding more sugar for sweetness or vinegar for tang if desired.
  6. Remove from heat and let the sauce cool. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week.
