- 1 pound ground beef (450g)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce (425g)
- 1/2 cup ketchup (120 ml)
- 1/4 cup packed brown sugar (50g)
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce (30 ml)
- 1 tablespoon yellow mustard (15 ml)
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour (180g)
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/3 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed (75g)
- 3/4 cup milk (180 ml)
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (100g)
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion and green pepper and sauté until softened.
- Add ground beef to the skillet and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned. Drain off any excess grease.
- Stir in garlic powder, salt, pepper, tomato sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, and mustard. Simmer for 5-10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Cut in cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in milk until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Gently fold in cheddar cheese.
- Pour the Sloppy Joe filling into the prepared baking dish. Drop spoonfuls of biscuit dough evenly over the filling.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown and cooked through. Let cool for a few minutes before serving.
