Ingredients:

  • 3 ripe avocados (approx. 450g), Hass preferred (1 lb)
  • 1/2 medium red onion, finely diced (approx. 50g) (2 oz)
  • 1-2 jalapeños, seeded and minced (or more, to taste)
  • 1/4 cup roughly chopped fresh cilantro (coriander)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice (from about 1 lime)
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt (or to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin (optional, for depth)
  • Pinch of cayenne pepper (optional, for extra kick)
  • 1/4 cup of water if needed

Instructions:

  1. Halve avocados, remove pits, and scoop flesh into the large bowl.
  2. Using a fork or potato masher, mash the avocados to your desired consistency – chunky or smooth, your call!
  3. Add the diced red onion, minced jalapeño, and chopped cilantro to the bowl.
  4. Pour in the lime juice, salt, cumin (if using), and cayenne pepper (if using).
  5. Gently mix all ingredients together. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed – more lime, more salt, more spice? Go for it! If the guac is too thick, add the water.
  6. Serve right away or chill for later (see tips for preventing browning).
