Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (28-ounce) can crushed tomatoes
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Fresh basil leaves, for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
- In a large saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat until shimmering.
- Add chopped onion and cook until translucent, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in minced garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute.
- Pour in the crushed tomatoes and stir to combine.
- Add sugar, dried basil, dried oregano, salt, and pepper.
- Bring the sauce to a gentle boil, then reduce heat to low and let simmer uncovered for 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Cook until sauce thickens and flavors meld, adjusting seasoning as needed.
- Remove from heat and stir in fresh basil, if using.
