Ingredients:
- 2 cups (240g) all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 packet (2 ¼ teaspoons) active dry yeast
- ¾ cup (180ml) warm water (about 110°F/43°C)
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted
- 2 cups (200g) shredded cheese (such as cheddar or a blend)
- 1 cup (240ml) sour cream
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh chives (optional)
- 4 cups (950ml) water
- ⅓ cup (80g) baking soda
Instructions:
- In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
- In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Add activated yeast mixture and melted butter. Stir to combine. Knead dough until smooth (about 5-7 minutes). Cover and let rise for 30 minutes.
- In another bowl, whisk together eggs, sour cream, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Fold in shredded cheese and chives (if using).
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll out dough into a large circle. Transfer to a greased pie dish.
- Pour cheese filling into the dough-lined pie dish.
- In a saucepan, bring water and baking soda to boil. Carefully dip the edges of the filled pie into the soda bath for 30 seconds.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
- Allow to cool for 10 minutes before slicing. Serve warm.
