Ingredients:
- 12 ounces penne pasta
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 large yellow onion, diced
- 1 pound ground turkey
- 2 teaspoons salt, divided
- .5 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 5 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups low-sodium chicken broth
- (15-ounce) can tomato sauce
- 1 cup half-and-half
- 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
- Fresh parsley (for garnish)
- Red chili flakes (optional)
Instructions:
- Boil the penne pasta in salted water until just underdone.
- Reserve one cup of pasta water before draining the rest.
- In a large pan over medium heat, heat the olive oil.
- Add diced onions to the pan and cook until soft (about five minutes).
- Incorporate the ground turkey into the pan and cook until browned.
- Season with one teaspoon of salt, black pepper, and Italian seasoning.
- Stir in minced garlic and sauté for an additional minute.
- Sprinkle flour over the meat mixture; stir well to combine.
- Pour in chicken broth and tomato sauce; let simmer for a few minutes.
- Add cooked pasta along with half-and-half to the pan; mix thoroughly.
- Fold in half of each type of cheese before topping with remaining cheese on top.
- Cover your dish until all cheeses have melted completely.
