Ingredients:

  • 12 ounces penne pasta
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 large yellow onion, diced
  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 2 teaspoons salt, divided
  • .5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 5 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups low-sodium chicken broth
  • (15-ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 1 cup half-and-half
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
  • Fresh parsley (for garnish)
  • Red chili flakes (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Boil the penne pasta in salted water until just underdone.
  2. Reserve one cup of pasta water before draining the rest.
  3. In a large pan over medium heat, heat the olive oil.
  4. Add diced onions to the pan and cook until soft (about five minutes).
  5. Incorporate the ground turkey into the pan and cook until browned.
  6. Season with one teaspoon of salt, black pepper, and Italian seasoning.
  7. Stir in minced garlic and sauté for an additional minute.
  8. Sprinkle flour over the meat mixture; stir well to combine.
  9. Pour in chicken broth and tomato sauce; let simmer for a few minutes.
  10. Add cooked pasta along with half-and-half to the pan; mix thoroughly.
  11. Fold in half of each type of cheese before topping with remaining cheese on top.
  12. Cover your dish until all cheeses have melted completely.
