Ingredients:
- 1 box (15.25 oz) German chocolate cake mix
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 3 large eggs
- 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
- 1/2 cup chocolate syrup
- 1 cup evaporated milk
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 3 large egg yolks, beaten
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter, cut into cubes
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 cups shredded sweetened coconut
- 1 cup chopped pecans
- Whipped cream or Cool Whip (optional)
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the German chocolate cake mix, water, vegetable oil, and eggs. Mix according to package instructions until well blended.
- Pour batter into a greased and floured 9x13 inch baking pan.
- Bake for about 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Once baked, remove from oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes.
- Use a fork or skewer to poke holes all over the top of the warm cake.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together sweetened condensed milk and chocolate syrup until combined.
- Slowly pour this mixture over the poked holes in your cake so that it seeps into them evenly.
- In a saucepan over medium heat, combine evaporated milk, granulated sugar, beaten egg yolks, Butter.
- Cook while stirring constantly until thickened (about 10 minutes) then remove from heat.
- Stir in vanilla extract, shredded coconut, and chopped pecans until well combined.
