Ingredients:
- 1 cup (226g) unsalted butter, softened
- 4 cups (480g) powdered sugar
- 2 teaspoons (10ml) vanilla extract
- 2-4 tablespoons (30-60ml) milk or heavy cream
- 1/8 teaspoon salt (optional)
Instructions:
- In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter with an electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes).
- With the mixer on low speed, gradually add the powdered sugar, one cup at a time, until fully incorporated. Stop and scrape down the sides of the bowl as needed.
- Add the vanilla extract and salt (if using) to the mixture. Mix on medium speed until combined.
- Add the milk or heavy cream, one tablespoon at a time, mixing on medium speed until the icing reaches your desired consistency. For a thinner icing, add more liquid. For a thicker icing, add more powdered sugar.
- Beat the icing on medium-high speed for 1-2 minutes, until light and airy.
