Ingredients:

  • 2 ounces Vodka (Good quality)
  • 1 ounce Coffee Liqueur (e.g., Kahlúa)
  • 1/2 to 3/4 ounce Peppermint Simple Syrup
  • 1 ounce Heavy Cream or Half-and-Half
  • Ice Cubes (As needed)
  • 1 teaspoon Crushed Candy Cane (For Garnish, Optional)
  • 1 sprig Fresh Mint (For Garnish, Optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Glass (Optional Rim): If rimming, gently moisten the rim of the serving glass with a lime wedge or a damp cloth. Invert the glass onto a plate containing finely crushed candy cane pieces, twisting gently to coat the edge. Fill the prepared glass with fresh ice.
  2. Combine Base Spirits: In a cocktail shaker (or jar), combine the vodka, coffee liqueur, and peppermint simple syrup.
  3. Chill: Fill the shaker with ice. Seal tightly and shake vigorously for about 15 seconds until thoroughly chilled.
  4. Strain: Strain the mixture from the shaker into the prepared, ice-filled glass.
  5. Float the Cream: Gently pour the heavy cream or half-and-half over the back of a spoon held just above the surface of the drink to create the classic layered effect.
  6. Garnish & Serve: Garnish with a fresh sprig of mint and a light sprinkle of crushed candy cane directly onto the cream. Serve immediately.
