Ingredients:
- 2 sheets ready-made puff pastry (approx. 14 oz/400g total)
- All-purpose flour, for dusting
- 1 cup (approx. 300g) Nutella, at room temperature
- 1 large egg, lightly beaten
- 1 tablespoon milk
- Icing sugar, for dusting (optional)
- Sprinkles, festive themed (optional)
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C/Gas Mark 5). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Lightly flour a clean surface. Unfold one sheet of puff pastry and gently roll it out into a 12-inch (30cm) circle.
- Carefully transfer the pastry circle to the prepared baking sheet. Spread the Nutella evenly over the surface, leaving a small border around the edge (about ½ inch/1cm).
- Unfold the second sheet of puff pastry and gently roll it out into a 12-inch (30cm) circle. Carefully place it on top of the Nutella-covered pastry.
- Place in the fridge to chill for 30 minutes.
- Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, cut the pastry circle into 16 equal wedges, starting from the center and going outwards.
- Take two adjacent wedges, twist them away from each other twice. Pinch the ends of the twists together to seal. Repeat with all the wedges.
- Brush the entire pastry tree with the egg wash. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed up.
- Let the pastry tree cool slightly on the baking sheet before transferring it to a serving plate. Dust with icing sugar and sprinkles (if using).
- Serve warm or at room temperature.
