Ingredients:
- 1 lb (454g) ground beef (lean, 85-93%)
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp (15 ml) sesame oil
- ¼ cup (50g) brown sugar, light or dark, packed
- ¼ cup (60 ml) soy sauce, low-sodium recommended
- 1 tsp (2g) fresh ginger, grated (or ½ tsp (1g) ground ginger)
- ½ tsp (1g) crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 tbsp (15 ml) rice vinegar (optional)
- 2 green onions (scallions), sliced, plus extra for garnish
- Cooked white or brown rice, for serving
- 1 tsp (2g) sesame seeds, for garnish
Instructions:
- In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef, breaking it up with a spatula. Drain any excess fat. Cook until no longer pink (about 5-7 minutes).
- Stir in the minced garlic and sesame oil. Cook for 1-2 minutes, or until fragrant.
- Add the soy sauce, brown sugar, ginger, and red pepper flakes (if using). Stir well to coat the beef.
- Reduce heat to medium and simmer for 2-3 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the sauce to slightly thicken.
- Stir in the sliced green onions and rice vinegar (if using). Remove from heat.
- Spoon the beef over bowls of cooked rice.
- Garnish with extra green onions and sesame seeds. Serve immediately.
