Ingredients:

  • 4 lb King Crab Legs (thawed)
  • 1–2 inches Water (or beer/wine, for steaming)
  • 1 Tbsp Salt (optional, for steam water)
  • 1 stick (8 Tbsp) Unsalted Butter
  • 2 cloves Garlic (minced)
  • 4 large Lemon Wedges (for serving)

Instructions:

  1. If using frozen King Crab Legs, ensure they are fully thawed. This can be done overnight in the refrigerator or in a sink of cold water for 30–60 minutes, changing the water every 15 minutes.
  2. Add 1 to 2 inches of water, wine, or beer, and the optional 1 tablespoon of salt, to a large stockpot. Place a steamer basket inside, ensuring the water level is below the bottom of the basket. Bring the liquid to a rolling boil over high heat.
  3. Place the King Crab Legs into the steamer basket. Cover the pot tightly. Reduce the heat slightly to maintain a consistent, strong steam. Steam for 10 to 15 minutes, depending on the thickness of the shells, until the internal temperature of the crab meat reaches 130°F to 140°F.
  4. While the crab is steaming, melt the 1 stick of unsalted butter in a small saucepan over low heat. Add the 2 minced garlic cloves and simmer gently for 2–3 minutes to infuse the flavor. Keep warm.
  5. Carefully remove the hot King Crab Legs from the steamer. Serve immediately with the warm garlic butter and fresh lemon wedges.
