Ingredients:

  • 1 pound (454g) Ground Beef (85% lean preferred)
  • 1 small Yellow Onion, diced (approximately 1 cup, or 150g)
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced (about 1 teaspoon, or 5g)
  • 2 cups (475ml) Beef Broth (low sodium preferred)
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 teaspoon (5ml) Soy Sauce (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons (25g) All-Purpose Flour
  • 2 tablespoons (28g) Unsalted Butter
  • Salt, to taste
  • ½ teaspoon (2.5ml) Black Pepper
  • Chopped Fresh Parsley, for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef, breaking it up with a spoon until browned and fully cooked. Drain any excess grease.
  2. Add diced onion to the skillet and cook until softened and translucent (about 3-4 minutes). Stir in minced garlic and cook until fragrant (about 30 seconds).
  3. Push the beef mixture to one side of the skillet. Add butter to the empty side and melt. Whisk in the flour and cook, stirring constantly, until the roux is golden brown (1-2 minutes).
  4. Slowly pour in beef broth, whisking constantly to avoid lumps. Add Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce (if using), salt, and pepper.
  5. Bring to a gentle simmer. Reduce heat to low and cook, stirring occasionally, until the gravy thickens to your desired consistency (5-10 minutes).
  6. Taste the gravy and adjust seasonings as needed. Add more salt, pepper, or Worcestershire sauce to taste.
  7. Spoon over mashed potatoes, rice, egg noodles, biscuits, or your favorite base. Garnish with chopped parsley, if desired.
