Ingredients:

  • 2 lbs (900g) Apples (such as Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, Fuji, or a mix), peeled, cored, and chopped
  • ½ cup (120ml) Water or Apple Cider
  • ¼ cup (50g) Granulated Sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) Lemon Juice
  • ½ teaspoon Ground Cinnamon (optional)
  • Pinch of Salt

Instructions:

  1. In the saucepan, combine the chopped apples, water/cider, sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon (if using), and salt.
  2. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 20-25 minutes, or until the apples are very soft.
  3. Remove from heat. For a chunky applesauce, mash with a potato masher. For a smoother sauce, use an immersion blender or transfer to a regular blender (be careful when blending hot liquids!).
  4. Taste the applesauce and add more sugar or cinnamon, if desired.
  5. Serve warm or chilled.
