Ingredients:
- 4 slices of thick bread (e.g., brioche or challah) (about 120g each)
- 2 large eggs (about 100g)
- ½ cup whole milk (120ml)
- Salt, to taste
- ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
- 2-4 slices of deli ham (about 100g)
- 2-4 slices of turkey or chicken (about 100g)
- 2 slices of Swiss or Gruyère cheese (about 60g)
- Unsalted butter, for frying (about 30g)
- Powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)
- Raspberry jam or maple syrup, for dipping
Instructions:
- In a shallow dish, whisk together eggs, milk, salt, and nutmeg until well combined.
- Layer one slice of bread with ham, turkey/chicken, and cheese. Top with a second slice of bread to create a sandwich. Repeat for the second sandwich.
- Dip each sandwich in the egg mixture, ensuring both sides are well-coated. Allow excess to drip off.
- Over medium heat, melt butter in the skillet until foamy.
- Carefully place the sandwiches in the pan. Cook until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side.
- Remove from the pan, dust with powdered sugar (if using), and serve with raspberry jam or syrup.
