Ingredients:

  • 2 cups (250g) All-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp (25g) Granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp Baking powder
  • 1 tsp Baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp Fine sea salt
  • 1 3/4 cups (415ml) Buttermilk, room temperature
  • 2 Large eggs
  • 4 tbsp (56g) Unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
  • 1 tsp Pure vanilla extract
  • 1.5 tbsp Neutral oil for greasing

Instructions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and fine sea salt until well combined.
  2. In a separate medium glass bowl, beat the 2 eggs into the buttermilk, vanilla extract, and melted butter.
  3. Pour the liquid mixture into the dry base and whisk until just combined, ensuring you do not overmix (a few small lumps are acceptable).
  4. Transfer the batter into a plastic squeeze bottle. If the batter is too viscous, thin with 1 tablespoon of buttermilk. Let the batter rest for 10 minutes to allow for starch hydration and leavening activation.
  5. Heat a wide non-stick griddle over medium-low heat and lightly grease with neutral oil.
  6. Using the squeeze bottle, draw the outline of a heart approximately 4-5 inches wide. Once the outline is set, fill in the center with batter.
  7. Cook until bubbles form on the surface and edges appear dry. Flip carefully and cook until the second side is golden brown.
