Ingredients:

  • 1 small apple, chopped (about 1 cup / 150g)
  • 1 small carrot, shredded (about ½ cup / 60g)
  • ½ banana, sliced
  • ½ bell pepper, diced (red, yellow, or green)
  • 1 small cucumber, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons mixed seeds (sunflower, millet, and pumpkin seeds - about 30g)
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted chopped walnuts or almonds (about 15g)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped, for garnish (optional)
  • 1 slice of whole grain bread or a small seed cake (optional for texture)

Instructions:

  1. Wash all fruits and vegetables thoroughly.
  2. Chop and prepare the fruits and vegetables: Cut the apple and cucumber into bite-sized pieces, shred the carrot, and dice the bell pepper.
  3. In a large bowl, combine all the chopped fruits and veggies. Toss gently.
  4. Use a bamboo skewer or string to thread the pieces of fruit and certain veggies for a hanging display.
  5. Sprinkle mixed seeds and nuts on top of the assembled platter.
  6. Garnish with fresh parsley, if using.
  7. Serve the platter in or around your parakeets cage to encourage foraging.
