Ingredients:

  • 2 large cucumbers, thinly sliced (about 450g/1 pound)
  • 1/2 medium red onion, thinly sliced (about 75g)
  • 1 cup sour cream (240ml)
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise (60ml)
  • 2 tablespoons white vinegar (30ml)
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar (12g)
  • 1 teaspoon dried dill weed (2g) or 1 tablespoon fresh dill, chopped (5g)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (3g), or to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper (0.5g), or to taste

Instructions:

  1. Thinly slice the cucumbers and red onion. Use a mandoline for uniform slices, if you have one.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the sour cream, mayonnaise, white vinegar, sugar, dill, salt, and pepper until smooth.
  3. Add the sliced cucumbers and red onion to the dressing. Gently toss to coat everything evenly. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld. This is a classic cucumber salad recipe.
  4. Before serving, taste the salad and adjust the seasoning as needed. You might want to add a touch more vinegar for tanginess or a pinch more sugar for sweetness, depending on your preference.
  5. Spoon into bowls and serve chilled.
