Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) / 113g unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup / 100g light brown sugar, packed
- 1/4 cup / 50g granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 1/2 teaspoons / 7.5ml vanilla extract
- 1 1/4 cups / 156g all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon / 2.5ml baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon / 1.25ml salt
- 1 cup / 170g semi-sweet chocolate chips (plus extra for topping)
- 1 cup frosting (store-bought or homemade buttercream)
- Sprinkles or mini chocolate chips
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and lightly flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
- Cream together softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Avoid overmixing.
- Gently stir in chocolate chips.
- Spread the dough evenly into the prepared pan. Flatten the top slightly. Add extra chocolate chips on top.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until edges are golden brown and the center is just set. Don't overbake!
- Let cool in the pan for 10-15 minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool completely. Decorate with frosting and sprinkles (optional).
- Cut into slices and serve.
