Ingredients:

  • 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 3/4 cup (180ml) buttermilk

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Using a pastry cutter or fork, cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Add the buttermilk and stir just until combined; do not overmix.
  5. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface.
  6. Gently fold the dough over itself 3-4 times for layers, then roll to about 1-inch thickness.
  7. Use a biscuit cutter to cut out biscuits and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  8. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
  9. Remove from the oven and serve warm with butter or jam.
