Ingredients:
- 2 cups ketchup
- 0.5 cup apple cider vinegar
- 0.5 cup light brown sugar, packed
- 2 tbsp unsulfured molasses
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 0.5 tsp ground black pepper
- 0.5 tsp dry mustard powder
- 0.25 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1 tsp liquid smoke
- 0.5 tsp kosher salt
Instructions:
- In a medium heavy-bottomed saucepan, whisk together the ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, molasses, and Worcestershire sauce until smooth.
- Stir in the smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, dry mustard, and cayenne pepper, whisking vigorously to remove clumps.
- Place the pot over medium heat until it reaches a gentle bubble. Reduce heat to low and simmer uncovered for 20–25 minutes.
- Monitor for visual cues: the sauce is ready when it has darkened in color and thickened enough to coat the back of a spoon.
- Remove from heat. Stir in the liquid smoke and kosher salt. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.
- Allow the sauce to cool completely at room temperature before transferring to a glass jar for storage.
