Ingredients:

  • 12 Hawaiian Sweet Rolls (1 standard 340 g / 12 oz package), left attached
  • 450 g (1 lb) Ground Beef (80/20 mix recommended)
  • 1 small Yellow Onion, finely diced
  • 1 tbsp (15 mL) Worcestershire Sauce
  • ½ tsp Salt (fine sea salt)
  • ¼ tsp Black Pepper, freshly ground
  • 8 slices (approx. 175 g) Cheddar or American Cheese, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp (30 mL) Olive Oil or Neutral Oil
  • 55 g (4 tbsp / ¼ cup) Unsalted Butter, melted
  • 1 tsp Garlic Powder
  • ½ tsp Dried Parsley (optional)
  • 1 tsp Dijon Mustard
  • 1 tsp Sesame Seeds (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). Lightly grease a 9x13 baking dish. Using a long serrated knife, slice the entire block of rolls horizontally across the middle, keeping the top and bottom halves intact. Place the bottom half of the rolls into the prepared baking dish.
  2. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and diced onion. Cook, breaking up the beef, until browned and the onions are translucent (about 6-8 minutes). Drain off all excess fat. Stir in the Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Set aside.
  3. Spread the cooked, seasoned beef mixture evenly over the bottom layer of the rolls. Layer the slices of cheese evenly over the beef. Gently place the top half of the rolls back onto the cheese layer.
  4. Prepare the Glaze: Combine the melted butter, garlic powder, dried parsley, and Dijon mustard in a small bowl. Whisk until well combined. Using a pastry brush, generously brush the entire surface of the top rolls with the garlic butter glaze. Sprinkle the sesame seeds over the glazed tops, if using.
  5. Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminium foil. Bake for 10 minutes. Remove the foil and return the pan to the oven for an additional 5-8 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbling, and the tops are golden brown.
  6. Remove the sliders from the oven. Let them rest in the pan for 5 minutes before slicing them along the original score lines and serving hot.
