Ingredients:
- 1 lb ground beef (or ground turkey)
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 1 bell pepper, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup ketchup
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp mustard
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 3/4 cup milk
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large skillet over medium heat, sauté the onion and bell pepper until softened (about 5 minutes).
- Add the garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
- Brown the ground beef in the skillet, breaking it apart until fully cooked. Drain excess fat if necessary.
- Stir in ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, mustard, salt, and pepper; blend well. Simmer for a few minutes until heated through.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add milk gradually, stirring until a soft dough forms.
- Spread the Sloppy Joe filling evenly in the bottom of the baking dish.
- Drop spoonfuls of biscuit dough over the filling, covering as much as possible.
- Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the biscuit topping is golden brown and cooked through.
- Cool slightly before serving to allow the flavors to meld.
