Ingredients:
- 40 Saltine crackers
- 1 cup (226g) unsalted butter
- 1 cup (200g) packed brown sugar
- 2 cups (340g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup (100g) chopped nuts (optional, e.g., pecans, walnuts, or almonds)
- Sea salt (to taste)
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and arrange the Saltine crackers in a single layer.
- In a medium saucepan, melt the butter and brown sugar over medium heat. Bring to a boil and let bubble for 3–4 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Immediately pour the toffee mixture over the arranged Saltines, ensuring to cover them evenly.
- Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven for 10 minutes until bubbly and golden.
- While the toffee is baking, melt the chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals until smooth.
- Remove the tray from the oven and pour the melted chocolate over the hot toffee, spreading it evenly.
- Sprinkle with chopped nuts and a pinch of sea salt over the chocolate layer.
- Allow to cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for about 30 minutes until firm.
- Once set, break into pieces and serve.
