Ingredients:

  • 40 Saltine crackers
  • 1 cup (226g) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup (200g) packed brown sugar
  • 2 cups (340g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup (100g) chopped nuts (optional, e.g., pecans, walnuts, or almonds)
  • Sea salt (to taste)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and arrange the Saltine crackers in a single layer.
  3. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter and brown sugar over medium heat. Bring to a boil and let bubble for 3–4 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Immediately pour the toffee mixture over the arranged Saltines, ensuring to cover them evenly.
  5. Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven for 10 minutes until bubbly and golden.
  6. While the toffee is baking, melt the chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals until smooth.
  7. Remove the tray from the oven and pour the melted chocolate over the hot toffee, spreading it evenly.
  8. Sprinkle with chopped nuts and a pinch of sea salt over the chocolate layer.
  9. Allow to cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for about 30 minutes until firm.
  10. Once set, break into pieces and serve.
