Ingredients:
- 1 pound (454g) fresh strawberries, washed and thoroughly dried
- 12 ounces (340g) semi-sweet chocolate chips or chopped chocolate
- 1 tablespoon (15ml) coconut oil, or vegetable shortening
- Sprinkles, chopped nuts, shredded coconut, or other toppings for decoration (Optional)
Instructions:
- Gently wash the strawberries and pat them completely dry. Remove the green stems if desired (leaving a little green makes them easier to dip).
- Combine the chocolate chips or chopped chocolate and coconut oil or shortening in a double boiler or heatproof bowl set over a simmering pot of water (making sure the bowl doesn't touch the water).
- Stir frequently until the chocolate is completely melted and smooth.
- Hold a strawberry by the stem or leaves (or use a dipping tool).
- Dip the strawberry into the melted chocolate, coating it almost completely.
- Lift the strawberry and allow excess chocolate to drip off.
- Immediately sprinkle the chocolate-covered strawberry with your desired toppings.
- Place the dipped strawberries on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Refrigerate for at least 15 minutes, or until the chocolate is firm.
