Ingredients:

  • 1 pound (454g) fresh strawberries, washed and thoroughly dried
  • 12 ounces (340g) semi-sweet chocolate chips or chopped chocolate
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) coconut oil, or vegetable shortening
  • Sprinkles, chopped nuts, shredded coconut, or other toppings for decoration (Optional)

Instructions:

  1. Gently wash the strawberries and pat them completely dry. Remove the green stems if desired (leaving a little green makes them easier to dip).
  2. Combine the chocolate chips or chopped chocolate and coconut oil or shortening in a double boiler or heatproof bowl set over a simmering pot of water (making sure the bowl doesn't touch the water).
  3. Stir frequently until the chocolate is completely melted and smooth.
  4. Hold a strawberry by the stem or leaves (or use a dipping tool).
  5. Dip the strawberry into the melted chocolate, coating it almost completely.
  6. Lift the strawberry and allow excess chocolate to drip off.
  7. Immediately sprinkle the chocolate-covered strawberry with your desired toppings.
  8. Place the dipped strawberries on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  9. Refrigerate for at least 15 minutes, or until the chocolate is firm.
