Ingredients:

  • 5 lbs Fresh Green Beans, trimmed
  • 1/2 cup Unsalted Butter, cut into cubes
  • 4 large cloves Fresh Garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup Chicken Broth or Vegetable Broth
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Black Pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon Onion Powder
  • 1 tablespoon Lemon Juice (Optional)

Instructions:

  1. Thoroughly wash the fresh green beans. Trim off the tough stem ends and snap or slice the beans to a manageable size (about 2 inches long). Pat them dry slightly.
  2. Place the trimmed green beans into the basin of the slow cooker.
  3. Scatter the minced garlic, salt, black pepper, and onion powder evenly over the green beans.
  4. Distribute the cubes of unsalted butter across the top of the beans. Pour the measured chicken or vegetable broth gently around the edges of the beans.
  5. Secure the lid tightly onto the slow cooker. Cook on LOW for 3 to 4 hours OR on HIGH for 2.5 to 3 hours.
  6. The beans are done when they are fork-tender but still have slight texture. Taste one and adjust salt/pepper if necessary.
  7. If using, stir in the tablespoon of fresh lemon juice just before serving to brighten the flavours. Transfer immediately to a serving dish.
