Ingredients:

  • 8 ounces (225g) fresh goat cheese, softened
  • 2 tablespoons (30ml) heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) chopped fresh chives
  • 1/2 teaspoon (2.5ml) freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon (1.25ml) salt
  • 1/2 cup (60g) all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
  • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 cup (100g) panko breadcrumbs
  • Vegetable oil, for frying (about 4 cups/950ml)
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) honey
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) fresh thyme leaves
  • 1 teaspoon (5ml) lemon juice

Instructions:

  1. Combine goat cheese, cream, chives, pepper, and salt in a bowl. Mix well until smooth and creamy.
  2. Roll the mixture into small (about 1-inch) balls. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet and chill in the freezer for at least 30 minutes to firm up.
  3. Prepare three shallow dishes: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with panko breadcrumbs.
  4. Dredge each chilled goat cheese ball in flour, then dip in the beaten eggs, and finally coat generously with panko breadcrumbs, ensuring they are fully covered.
  5. Heat vegetable oil in a deep saucepan to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Carefully drop a few breaded goat cheese balls into the hot oil (don't overcrowd the pan!). Fry for 1-2 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy.
  7. Remove the fried goat cheese balls with a slotted spoon and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
  8. While the goat cheese balls are cooling, combine honey, thyme leaves, and lemon juice in a small saucepan. Heat over low heat for 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the thyme is fragrant and the honey is slightly thinned.
  9. Drizzle the honey-thyme mixture over the Crispy Fried Goat Cheese Balls and serve immediately.
