Ingredients:
- 8 ounces (225g) fresh goat cheese, softened
- 2 tablespoons (30ml) heavy cream
- 1 tablespoon (15ml) chopped fresh chives
- 1/2 teaspoon (2.5ml) freshly ground black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon (1.25ml) salt
- 1/2 cup (60g) all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
- 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
- 1 cup (100g) panko breadcrumbs
- Vegetable oil, for frying (about 4 cups/950ml)
- 1/4 cup (60ml) honey
- 1 tablespoon (15ml) fresh thyme leaves
- 1 teaspoon (5ml) lemon juice
Instructions:
- Combine goat cheese, cream, chives, pepper, and salt in a bowl. Mix well until smooth and creamy.
- Roll the mixture into small (about 1-inch) balls. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet and chill in the freezer for at least 30 minutes to firm up.
- Prepare three shallow dishes: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with panko breadcrumbs.
- Dredge each chilled goat cheese ball in flour, then dip in the beaten eggs, and finally coat generously with panko breadcrumbs, ensuring they are fully covered.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep saucepan to 350°F (175°C).
- Carefully drop a few breaded goat cheese balls into the hot oil (don't overcrowd the pan!). Fry for 1-2 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove the fried goat cheese balls with a slotted spoon and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
- While the goat cheese balls are cooling, combine honey, thyme leaves, and lemon juice in a small saucepan. Heat over low heat for 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the thyme is fragrant and the honey is slightly thinned.
- Drizzle the honey-thyme mixture over the Crispy Fried Goat Cheese Balls and serve immediately.
