Ingredients:

  • 1 loaf French or Italian bread, halved lengthwise
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick/113g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced (or 1.5 tsp garlic paste)
  • 1 cup (113g) shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup (28g) grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (or 1 tsp dried parsley)
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
  • Red pepper flakes or cracked black pepper, to taste (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine softened butter, minced garlic, parsley, oregano, and salt. Mix until well combined.
  3. Place bread halves, cut-side up, on the prepared baking sheet. Spread the garlic butter evenly over both halves.
  4. Sprinkle mozzarella cheese evenly over both halves, followed by the Parmesan cheese.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and lightly golden.
  6. For extra crispiness, switch to the broiler on high for 1-2 minutes, watching carefully to avoid burning. The cheese should be a lovely golden brown (optional).
  7. Remove from oven, let cool slightly, then slice and serve warm.
