Ingredients:

  • 2 lbs (900g) medium sweet potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 4 tablespoons (57g) unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) milk (or plant-based alternative)
  • Salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1-2 tablespoons (15-30ml) maple syrup or honey (optional, to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon (2g) ground cinnamon (optional)
  • 1/8 teaspoon (0.5g) nutmeg (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Peel and cube the sweet potatoes into uniform pieces (about 1-inch).
  2. Place sweet potatoes in a large pot and cover with cold water. Add a pinch of salt. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 15-20 minutes until tender (fork easily pierces).
  3. Drain sweet potatoes in a colander. Return to the pot for a minute to allow excess moisture to evaporate.
  4. Add butter, milk, salt, pepper, and any optional flavor enhancers to the sweet potatoes. Mash using a potato masher or ricer until smooth and creamy.
  5. Taste the mash and adjust seasoning as preferred.
  6. Transfer to a serving bowl and enjoy!
