Ingredients:
- 1 cup (226g) unsalted butter, softened
- 3/4 cup (150g) brown sugar, packed
- 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 1/4 cups (280g) all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup (170g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup (85g) chopped nuts (optional)
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line the baking pan.
- In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the egg and vanilla extract; mix until fully combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture; mix until just combined.
- Fold in the chocolate chips and nuts (if using).
- Spread the batter evenly into the prepared baking pan.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the edges are golden and a toothpick inserted in the centre comes out with a few moist crumbs.
- Let cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Cut into squares and serve.
