Ingredients:
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 1 packet active dry yeast
- ½ cup whole milk, warmed
- 1 large egg
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup brown sugar, packed
- 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 12 breakfast sausages
Instructions:
- In a mixing bowl, combine warm milk and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes. Whisk in the sugar, egg, melted butter, and salt.
- Gradually add flour until the dough comes together. Knead on a floured surface until smooth, about 5-7 minutes. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled, about 1 hour.
- In a small bowl, mix together brown sugar and cinnamon.
- Punch down the risen dough, then roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle about ½ inch thick.
- Spread softened butter over the dough and sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly. Place the sausages along the long edge of the rectangle. Roll up tightly.
- Cut into 12 equal pieces and place on a lined baking sheet.
- Cover the rolls and let them rise for an additional 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the rolls for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
- Mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth, drizzle over cooled rolls if desired.
