Ingredients:

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • ½ cup whole milk, warmed
  • 1 large egg
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 12 breakfast sausages

Instructions:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine warm milk and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes. Whisk in the sugar, egg, melted butter, and salt.
  2. Gradually add flour until the dough comes together. Knead on a floured surface until smooth, about 5-7 minutes. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled, about 1 hour.
  3. In a small bowl, mix together brown sugar and cinnamon.
  4. Punch down the risen dough, then roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle about ½ inch thick.
  5. Spread softened butter over the dough and sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly. Place the sausages along the long edge of the rectangle. Roll up tightly.
  6. Cut into 12 equal pieces and place on a lined baking sheet.
  7. Cover the rolls and let them rise for an additional 30 minutes.
  8. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the rolls for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. Mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth, drizzle over cooled rolls if desired.
