Instructions:
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, and baking soda.
- Cut in the softened butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Gradually stir in buttermilk until a soft dough forms.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead gently for about 1-2 minutes.
- Cover with a kitchen towel and let rest for 30 minutes.
- In a small bowl, combine brown sugar and cinnamon.
- In another bowl, mix crumbled breakfast sausage with softened butter.
- Roll the rested dough into a rectangle (approximately 12x15 inches).
- Spread the sausage mixture evenly on the rolled dough.
- Sprinkle the brown sugar and cinnamon mixture evenly over the sausage layer.
- Starting from one long edge, tightly roll the dough into a log.
- Cut the log into 8 equal pieces.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Place rolls in a parchment-lined baking sheet; cover and let rise for 20 minutes.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
- Whisk together powdered sugar, maple syrup, and milk until smooth.
- Drizzle the glaze over warm cinnamon rolls before serving.
