Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 3/4 cup milk (whole or buttermilk)
- Optional spices for seasoning: Cinnamon Sugar (1 tablespoon sugar, 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon) or Garlic Herb (2 teaspoons garlic powder, mixed dried herbs to taste)
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Whisk together until well mixed.
- Add the cold cubed butter into the dry mixture. Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, cut in the butter until it resembles coarse crumbs—this should take about two minutes.
- Pour in the milk gradually while stirring gently with a fork until just combined; do not overmix—the dough should be slightly sticky but manageable.
- Transfer dough onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead it three to four times until it holds together. Pat down to about an inch thick and use a biscuit cutter or sharp knife to cut out rounds or squares.
- If youre using the cinnamon-sugar topping, mix sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl; if using garlic herb topping, combine garlic powder with herbs in another small bowl.
- Place biscuits on an ungreased baking sheet about an inch apart. Brush tops lightly with extra milk before sprinkling your chosen kufi topping generously over each biscuit.
- Bake for approximately 15-20 minutes until they are golden brown on top and baked through.
- Remove from oven and let cool slightly before serving warm.
