Ingredients:
- 6 medium apples (Granny Smith, Braeburn, or a mix), peeled, cored, and sliced (approximately 750g / 1.6 lbs)
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour (or gluten-free blend), plus extra for dusting (30g / 1 oz)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar (50g / 1.75 oz)
- 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar (50g / 1.75 oz)
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (5ml)
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (1.25 ml)
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice (15 ml)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour (125g / 4.4 oz)
- 1/2 cup rolled oats (50g / 1.75 oz)
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar (100g / 3.5 oz)
- 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar (50g / 1.75 oz)
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (2.5 ml)
- 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into cubes (113g / 4 oz / 1 stick)
- Pinch of salt (approx 1/8 tsp)
Instructions:
- Peel, core, and slice the apples. Toss with flour, sugars, spices, and lemon juice.
- Combine flour, oats, sugars, cinnamon, and salt in a bowl. Cut in the butter using a pastry blender or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Pour the apple mixture into the baking dish. Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the apples.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) until the topping is golden brown and the apple filling is bubbly (about 35-40 minutes).
- Let cool for at least 10 minutes before serving.
